How Can a Naturopath Support Me During Pregnancy (Virtually)

By Dr. Alexsia Priolo (she/her), Naturopathic Doctor

Dr. Alexsia Priolo, Naturopathic Doctor, explains how a prenatal naturopath can support you (virtually or in person) throughout your pregnancy.

How can a virtual visit support me during my pregnancy?

Naturopathic doctors have a lot to offer when it comes to supporting people throughout their pregnancy and there are different ways that we can support you throughout each trimester.

In the first trimester, one of the most common issues that I see is nausea and vomiting. You might not have known this but one of the first-line treatments for mild to moderate nausea and vomiting is actually herbs as well as vitamins, acupressure could be really helpful too. So we’ll talk about things like that, kind of troubleshoot to see what’s working, what’s not working. In the second trimester, you know muscle aches and painful cramps are typically really common issues. We’ll talk about, you know, support regarding those. Then usually people are going to be taking the gestational diabetes tests around 24 to 28 weeks. So if you have any concerns about your diet we’re happy to help you with that as you approach that test.

In the third trimester, you may want to look at supporting your vaginal microbiome. Especially as you are preparing for your Group B Strep swab. And then lastly preparing for birth. When it comes to birth preparation there is a ton to talk about. Whether that’s, you know, including adding herbs in your diet to help repair your uterus, adding in some foods, or other supplements. Potentially looking at some of those really important acupressure points that you can use at home. We kind of take you through it all.
