Birth Essentials: Single-Day Childbirth Education Class
This course will focus on the essential questions most folks ask us about pregnancy, labour and delivery. The 6-hour interactive, hands-on course will answer these questions and much more to give you a great basis for preparing for your birth. Please note the class is from 10am-5pm to accommodate a 30-60 minute lunch break.
This class can be used as a standalone class for those who don’t have time to take a traditional multi-week childbirth education class, and would also be useful for those who have taken a hospital class and are looking for just a bit more information on their options during birth.
This course will answer some of your most common questions about pregnancy and childbirth, including:
- How will I prepare for baby’s arrival?
- How do I know I am in labour?
- How will I manage through the stages/phases of labour?
- What are my options?
- Who will support me?
- Once Baby is born: What happens next?
- How will I take care of myself?
Class / Workshop Facilitators
- Janalee FerreiraDoula
Janalee’s work as a doula and yoga teacher focuses on encouraging women to trust their body and honour their intuition. As a Doula, her mission is to support women as they bring their babies earthside in the most conscious and gentle way possible. There’s no one way or best way for a woman to birth; how she feels most confident and most comfortable is the best way for her. In addition to her doula work, she has been teaching yoga the last four years and also teaches our very popular class on newborn care, Newborn Care 101.
- Nadine RossDoula, Childbirth Educator
My name is Nadine and I’m the proud parent of four beautiful daughters. After fifteen years working in childcare, I decided to
make a career change and bring my passion and knowledge for birth and infant care to the Doula world in early 2016. I have had
the privilege of going through my Doula journey with my own mother, and have been working with her as a unique mother-
daughter team in Toronto.
As a child and young adult, I traveled extensively with my family and resided in Mexico for nearly a
decade. This unique upbringing has afforded me the opportunity of also being able to offer my Doula services to families in Spanish and bring my love for Rebozos into my birth work.
I’m a Certified and Registered Ontario Birth & Postpartum Doula, Dancing for Birth InstructorTM, Placenta Specialist – APPAC®, Baby-Led Sleep & Well Being Specialist, and member of Evidence Based Birth.
I currently volunteer on the board of directors with the Association of Ontario Doulas, and form part of the Birth Doula
program at Markham Stouffville Hospital. I specialize in overnight postpartum support and have extensive experience caring for multiples. I adore working with infants and bring my expertise in helping support parents with those early nights at home with a newborn. As a Doula I believe that better support during pregnancy, birth and postnatal periods creates stronger and healthier families. I vision creating change in my community and building stronger families through support and education.
