Starting Solids Workshop – COVERED BY INSURANCE!
Knowing when and how to start solids with your baby can be so daunting, but it doesn’t have to be!
Occupational therapists have knowledge in oral motor development, general motor development and sensory processing development. And believe it or not, ALL these skills (and more) are required for successfully starting of solids.
Join our Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Teddie Buchner, as she leads you through everything you need to know to start solids with your baby. This is an interactive workshop and you should expect to discuss, learn and watch your baby interact with solid food.
Some of the topics that will be discussed include:
- How to read your baby’s readiness cues for feeding and eating
- Current evidence based recommendations for introducing new foods
- Puree vs. table foods
- How do I set good eating habits that will last
- How to progress through solids as your child grows
- Gagging vs. choking
This workshop is great for parents and caregivers who are nervous about introducing solids to their baby or having difficulties transitioning their baby to solid foods. At the end of this workshop you should leave feeling more confident and comfortable with starting solids with your baby and introducing new foods.

Teddie BuchnerOccupational Therapist
Teddie is an Occupational Therapist with a focus on pediatric and maternal health. She is currently working towards her PhD in Occupational Therapy, focusing her research on maternal and infant mental health and attachment.
Teddie has worked as an occupational therapist in community mental health, school-based, and outpatient pediatric settings, eventually specializing in pediatric mental health and developmental trauma. Teddie has experience she addressed orthopedic and orthotic needs, environmental modifications, adaptive communication, sensory processing challenges, visual motor deficits, community mobility needs, work ergonomics, wheelchair seating, and supported employment efforts.
Teddie has served as a Clinical Educator for four graduate OT programs, and has held a faculty position, teaching and serving as the academic fieldwork coordinator at Grand Rapids Community College. Teddie also managed Saskatchewan BlueCross Life and Disability department, providing education to the insurance company and employers regarding the impact of mental health in the workplace, and influencing recovery trajectories to enable members to successfully return to work after illness or injury.
Teddie carries the designation of Qualified Mental Health Professional. She is thrilled and excited to bring her many years of experience to the families at West End Mamas to help with both their occupational therapy and their mental health needs.
