Don’t worry, we won’t charge you if you’re in labour. In that case, please have a great birth and send us a photo when your baby is born!

What is your late arrival policy?

We understand that life happens! Traffic, diaper blow-outs, crying babies and life can get in the way of getting somewhere on time. However, out of respect for everyone’s time, we do ask that you arrive on time for your classes and appointments.

Unfortunately, if you’re more than 5 minutes late for a class or workshop in both the Toronto and Newmarket locations, we will not be able to accommodate you. We thank you for your understanding, for honouring our policy, and for respecting everyone’s time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture in Gwillimbury in helps with many reproductive conditions by stimulating the nervous system (via the needles) to send messages to the brain that change the hormonal output from the brain to the ovaries and uterus.

For example, there is a point on the hand that has the effect of down-regulating the sympathetic nervous system and reducing nervous tension. This in turn allows blood flow to return to the digestive and reproductive organs and has the effect of improving digestion and reducing both abdominal and menstrual pain. So we say the point improves digestion and eliminates pain in the abdomen.

Does prenatal acupuncture help prevent morning sickness?

We feel you — those first few months or pregnancy can be pretty rough (and for some of us it never seems to end). But, good news! Acupuncture in Newmarket is commonly used to treat morning sickness, and many mamas find that it helps. In addition to nausea, acupuncture can help alleviate some of the other less pleasant pregnancy symptoms such as heartburn, hemorrhoids, sciatica, joint pain and even carpal tunnel syndrome.

Can acupuncture during pregnancy help encourage labour?

The final days of pregnancy waiting for baby to arrive can feel like an eternity! Well, acupuncture isn’t the magic fix — but it can help. Acupuncture in Georgina helps to prepare your cervix for labour and delivery and, in many cases, this helps to naturally speed things along. There are six major acupressure points on the body that are believed to induce labour and all of West End Mamas’ acupuncturists are trained in these methods.

How soon can you have acupuncture after giving birth?

Postpartum acupuncture in Georgina has many benefits for healing mamas. However, it’s important to get the green-light from your physician or midwife before receiving your first postnatal acupuncture treatment. Some women can have acupuncture 1-2 weeks after having a baby, while others may be advised to wait longer.

Will acupuncture hurt?

No, acupuncture shouldn’t hurt. In fact, when we are using it to affect the hormonal system, it needs to be gentle in order to be most effective. When receiving acupuncture in Bradford, the needles are so thin and gently applied that you most likely won’t feel them being inserted. Once they have been inserted completely, you can expect to feel a mild, dull ache, a slight warmth at the acupuncture points, or even a slight tingling sensation. This is all normal and means that it’s working!

Where are you going to put the needles?

Acupuncture in Richmond Hill can be used to treat a variety of pregnancy related symptoms. The most useful points on the body are below the elbows and below the knees, although there are an extensive amount of points in the body that can offer beneficial outcomes. This list includes the lower back, face, back of the neck, hands, feet and so many others. Generally, when you come into our clinic for acupuncture, we only use a few points in a single treatment. The acupuncture points that will be used during your treatment will depend on what concerns you are trying to address.

Do I have to believe in it for it to work?

No, acupuncture will work whether you are a true believer or a sceptic or somewhere in between! While there is evidence that suggests a positive attitude accelerates healing, as flowing energy speeds up recovery. Acupuncture in Gwillimbury may be new to you, but it’s an old medicine with a long history of safety and effectiveness. No matter the reason why you are receiving treatment, acupuncture will shift your nervous system so the body can take care of itself and lower its cortisol levels, which is when the healing happens.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breastfeeding

What if I want to formula feed and breastfeed? Will a lactation consultant judge me?

Our lactation consultants in Toronto, Newmarket & York region are here to help you achieve your goals, no matter what those goals are. Many moms struggle with breastfeeding in the beginning, or never get the hang of it at all — and that’s okay! Just like our personalities are all different, so are the way our bodies will respond to breastfeeding. If you want to learn how to effectively supplement your baby with formula, we can do that. When it comes to ensuring your baby has a happy, full belly and remains at a healthy weight, there is no one right answer and our lactation consultants in York region know that.

What’s the deal with tongue ties?

Tongue and lip ties happen when there is a tightness either underneath the lip or under the tongue. This can result in the baby not fully emptying the breast with each feed, which can lead to blocked ducts and mastitis. It can also lead to nipple or breast damage. Or, it can do neither of the above, but the baby might not take a full feed, and might just appear to snack or nibble at the breast instead of having a good long feed.

Our lactation consultants in Newmarket, York Region, and Toronto can’t do anything about the tongue tie, but they can identify it and get you pointed in the direction of someone who can help resolve it quickly for you.

I want to give up night feeds and sleep train my baby. Is this ok?

Again, no judgement here. Your lactation consultant in Stouffville will educate you on what is developmentally normal, feeding-wise for your baby’s age, and help you with strategies to achieve your goal. In fact, learning to self-soothe can be an important skill for infants to learn in order to avoid nightly crying. When it comes to raising a baby, there is no singular technique every parent must follow. As you figure out what works best for you, it’s our job to help you positively get there.

Do I have to come to the clinic for my appointment?

Nope! At West End Mamas, there is no need to come into the clinic for your appointment. All you have to do is simply call one of our lactation consultants in Bradford and they will come to you. We don’t even expect you to get out of bed or even get changed for us. Just stay at home and we’ll be there as soon as we can.
